Data on complications and risks in connection with
blood transfusion is collected and registered in the
Danish Register of Transfusion Risks (DART).
This scheme was inaugurated in 1999.
Up to this day, five annual reports have been published.
The visualisation of the risk of having a serious transfusion complication has led to a number of initiatives taken by the National Board of Health
aiming at improving
the safety of blood transfusion in hospitals.
Since 2001, the reports are published online.
DART represents Denmark in the
European Haemovigilance Network (EHN).
EHN is an alert–network which notifies its members
on the suspicion of risks in transfusion medicine.
Alert messages are forwarded via a similar Danish network
covering the regional transfusion centres.
DART is a member of the
"Working Party on Haemovigilance",
International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT).
